Free telephone counselling
Free telephone counselling on gambling problems by the Federal Institute of Public Health (BIÖG, formerly BZgA). Mon–Thu 10:00–22:00, Fri–Sun 10:00–18:00. Also for relatives.

The BIÖG’s website check-dein-spiel.de offers a quick test and a self-test, free and anonymous online and e-mail counselling, telephone counselling in other languages and a search for local counselling centres. There is an English section.

OASIS: the national player exclusion system
- Who runs it: the Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt keeps the central blocking file for all of Germany.
- How to block yourself (Selbstsperre): online at the Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt with a signed form and a copy of your ID card or passport (a driving licence is not accepted) – or in person at any licensed provider, including the reception of a Spielbank.
- How long: at least one year by default. You can choose a shorter period, but never less than three months.
- How it ends: never automatically, even if you gave an end date. After the minimum period you must apply in writing; a self-exclusion ends one week after the application at the earliest.
- At the door: staff compare your ID with OASIS on every visit. If you are blocked, you cannot enter.
- Not possible: you cannot block yourself on check-dein-spiel.de; the BIÖG has no access to OASIS.
